While Americans were celebrating the nation’s birth last week with barbeques and fireworks, they also managed to do a lot of television watching, especially our Scripps Networks channels. All six of our networks celebrated the holiday week of July 4 with year-over-year primetime growth in the P25-54 demo. For the week in cable, HGTV ranked #2, while Food Network ranked #6.
HGTV ratings were up 16 percent for the week, led by the Wednesday season finale of Brother vs. Brother and the Thursday episode premiere of Flip or Flop, which was tied for first in its timeslot. Food Network ratings were up 11 percent for the week, driven by Chopped Jr. and Cooks vs. Cons, both enjoying their highest-rated telecasts to date, and Food Network Star which to date has been seen by nearly 30 million P2+ viewers, posted a season-high rating, tying for third in the 9 p.m. Sunday timeslot.
Scripps Nets’ other channels all saw healthy year-over-year growth for the week, fueled by the premieres of Food Paradise and Xtreme Waterparks on Travel Channel (up 35 percent), Vanilla Ice Project and Barnwood Builders on DIY Network (up 8 percent), Cake Hunters and Man Fire Food on Cooking Channel (up 9 percent) and Texas Flip and Move on GAC (up 67 percent).
Bring on more fireworks!
