NEW YORK —  HGTV kicked off 2016 with a stellar performance on January 1. HGTV’s All-Premiere New Year, the network’s annual day-long programming event, attracted more than 16.5 million total viewers. Fan favorite series and specials, such as Fixer Upper and HGTV Dream Home 2016, along with several “tiny house”-themed shows, including Tiny House Hunters, Mighty Tiny House and Tiny Luxury, helped the network’s January 1 ratings grow 11% over last year’s holiday.

During the 9 p.m.-10 p.m. hour, a special episode of Fixer Upper, which featured the Gaines’ favorite houses and never-before-seen moments from the series, averaged a 0.91 rating among viewers P25-54. The episode grew ratings 56% among viewers P25-54 versus year ago levels and ranked as a top 10 cable program among P25-54 audiences.

In addition, the premiere of Ellen’s Design Challenge: Meet the Cast special, which introduced the Ellen’s Design Challenge season two contestants, attracted more than 1.9 million total viewers. The special upped the P25-54 ratings 38% over the same time period last year. Overall, HGTV ranked among the top five cable networks in Prime (M-Su 8P-12A) on Friday night among P25-54 ratings.
