As part of the push, Travel will roll out seven new original series, complemented by multiple on- and off -air programming events. The news comes as Travel executives prepare for their role in Scripps’s upfront presentations to advertisers last week in Manhattan.
The network’s “Destination Summer” tips off with “Travel America,” a week-long programming initiative featuring original series and specials that spotlight locations throughout the country.
Beginning May 20 through May 25, viewers can discover Kansas City BBQ on Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations; explore exotic Hawaii on Park Secrets; tour over-the-top vehicles on Extreme RV’s; transform a La Jolla, Calif., hotel-inneed on Hotel Impossible; and uncover unusual eats in West Virginia on Bizarre Foods America.
Additional programming events will run throughout the summer, from Memorial Day through Labor Day, according to network officials.
The new original series anchoring the stunt are: Mega Mansions, an exclusive look at some of America’s most iconic mansions open to the public, highlighted by a never-beforeseen vault inside San Simeon; Xtreme Waterparks, an actionpacked adventure down some of the country’s most intense water slides and Insane Coaster Wars, an adrenaline-pumping ride that allows Travel viewers to go vote for which roller coaster is the best.
Also in the stunt are; RV Kings, following the Dunkel family as they transform a myriad of recreational vehicles into tricked-out wonders; Suite Choice (working title), in which travelers get to test-drive three dream vacations in one city based on their budget; American Originals, trailing host Steve Watson as he tests some of America’s coolest travel inventions and little-known destinations; and All You Can Meat, led by Chuey Martinez, as he searches the nation for the most mouthwatering cuts of meat.
Throughout the summer, users can visit TravelChannel.com for such content as vacation and hotel planning tips; summer festivals and events; insane rollercoaster polls; exclusive road-trip video; extreme RV photos; a Rate-My-Beach community; grilling tips and national parks info.
